About me

I am a Social Worker with 18 years of work experience with Alberta Health Services (AHS) and in the community.

After moving to Canada in 2000, I left my 14 year position as a stay-at -home mother to journey into the professional world. My experience with AHS includes working as a Family Counsellor at the Eating Disorder Program, the Foothills Medical Centre Adolescent Addictions Program and the Children’s Day Treatment Program at the Alberta Children’s Hospital. I moved into part-time private practice in 2013 to continue my work with the Eating Disorder community. My areas of interest and expertise include eating disorders, couples work, family therapy and parenting support for all ages (as we know, we never stop being parents).

My Story

As I have travelled and navigated the world of therapy, the importance of ‘context’ has impressed itself upon me and I have decided to refer to myself as a Family Therapist. I notice that while we live every moment in the context of our many interpersonal relationships of the past, the present and the future, we are inclined to think and speak of ourselves in fixed and disconnected ways. We wonder why we feel the way we do and often believe that there is something intrinsically “wrong” with ourselves when we feel “bad” or struggle with ‘negative’ emotions.

My work with adolescents always includes working with the parents. Working with adults may or may not include other family members in person, as the situation demands.

My training, therefore, has been extensively in the areas of Attachment and Family systems, embellished with the principles of Integrated Body Focused Psychotherapy and Mindfulness. Integrated into my work is also my invaluable life experience of being a mother and a grandmother. Through the many transitions, I have had the privilege of being supported in my learnings by wonderful teachers, who have taught me the value of discernment and eternal curiosity.

In the last 7 years, an additional endeavour has been my involvement with the Calgary Silver Linings Foundation as their Clinical Advisor , working to create a residential treatment centre for Eating Disorders in Calgary.
